Food, Fun, & Lizzo- Captiol Hill Block Party 2019
Ever heard the rumor that Seattle’s summers are the best? Don’t say you heard it from us, but it is 100% true.
Last weekend the sun shine brightly on our jam pack weekend. The city was alive and full of thriving festivals including the popular Bite of Seattle, Uwajimaya Night Market, SLU Night Market, and the highlight of our weekend was the Capitol Hill Block Party.
As a Cap Hill Block Party first timer, I didn’t know what to expect, but quickly, knew it was like no other festival that I have been to. I loved every part of it, it embodied Seattle’s character and charm in an intimate, inclusive environment. The block party extended two streets in the heart of cap hill with several venues filled with good music, entertainment, and people ready to party.
But most importantly we came for the food. Here are our top 3 Food picks:
1) Mike's Shaved Ice
We like it so much we had to get it twice. They make shaved ice masterpieces with several flavor options that you cannot go wrong with. We ordered one that the Hawaiian favorite lilikoi, pineapple, watermelon and lychee. The texture of the shaved ice was smooth and had all the components of perfect melt-in-your mouth summer goodness. I liked that the flavors weren’t too sweet or watered down, they were just right. As I write this, I crave another one. The perfect summer dessert takes our top pick.
2) People of the Chubbs
One of Chubbs signature dish, the Carne Asada Fries, is the best around. What sets it apart from most other recipes is the rich original sauce that they generously served on top the bed of fries, cheese, carne asada and onions. It gave us flavor, it gave us texture, and cheesey comfort goodness. Again, another repeat dish, that I highly recommend checking out.
3) Poquitos/Havana
A delicious taco bar hosted inside the iconic Poquitos as a part of the VIP Lounge gave us all the taco fixing options that we could’ve ever asked for. The variety gave us opportunity to try so many different types of tacos. As long as I’ve been in Seattle, Poquitos is one of the top places to go before a night out in town. We plan on coming back again.
It was so much fun trying out different food vendors! Thank you for having us Capitol Hill Block Party. We especially loved watching Lizzo perform. Her performance was absolutely life-changing! Her music and confidence makes you want to love yourself in way you didn’t think you could. She celebrates being different, self-love, and happiness and the crowd felt it.
